Copy Catwalk: stand and deliver skirt

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE how this turned out!!!! Thanks for sending me an awesome purple modcloth dress copy catwalk suggestion, Nishat! It ended up being a fun skirt to make. I just made it a bit longer in the front so I didn't have to add an extra layer underneath, also making it a tad more modest. But if you want it to look super short in the front and more drape-y, then cut the angle deeper (as explained below). Anyway, I was happy to get a challenge and something non-refashion related to do....so here you go.

Supplies:
flowy fabric - knit or polyester
sewing machine or needle and thread
thread
scissors
flexible measuring tape
fabric pen or marking chalk
iron
pins

Instructions:
I hope that the steps are easy enough to follow in these pics, if not let me know and I will explain it in a video. So much easier that way. By the way, with this first picture....the deeper you cut the angle, the more of a drape it will make.
Start off with 2 1/3 yards of drape-like fabric. I chose a light knit fabric I thirfted. Sheer fabric would work really well too.

I forgot to take a picture of how I attached the waistband - cut a waistband out 6-8 inches wide and as long as the skirt. Then at this point above, pin right sides of waistband and dress elastic together and sew just below the elastic. Then fold width in half inwards, topstitch to cover raw edges.

  23. I am in love with this! Where I seem to get lost in the instructions is the second picture. Where are you folding again, along what line. Every which way I try with my fabric, it doesn't look like your picture. The rest of the instructions I think I can follow, it is just this second arc cutting that I cannot seem to work my way around. Hmmm...a little help :)

  26. I LOVE this skirt! I also love that you called it "stand and deliver" - are you an Adam ant fan? because that's the song that plays in my head every time when I saw this post title.

  27. I'd love to make this skirt, but I've tried a few times and just can't get it. Could you possibly put up a video tutorial? Thanks sooo much!!!

  28. I really want to make this skirt - can you post a video tutorial because I cannot figure out the second step? Every which way I fold, my piece of material, it still does not look like yours! Thank you!

  29. I was also wondering of you had a video....

  30. The second step confused me too at first. This may help though. In the first step you fold the material in half and cut. In the second step you fold it again and cut. So when she said fold two times you've already folded once. Also when you fold it the second time the first cut is on the back so you can actually flip the material and cut by tracing the first cut.

    Confusing but hope it helps!!
