Turn a men's polo into loose top with fun buttons refashion (and it's reversible!)

As I was mentioning before, my older brother is moving away (so sad) and was cleaning/DI-ing/packing for his big move. And luckily for me, they donated all their clothes to my cotton & curls refashioning charity. This Polo was one of the tops and I'm a sucker for stripes. I love flipping shirts backwards, it creates kind of a blank canvas in the front and a party in the back. By the way, this top is also reversible!

A little bit of family is in town and I took advantage with my little brother as my photographer and Beck as the entertainer. He is hilarious. He seriously tells these elaborate stories about sharks or bears and can go on for a good 20 minutes. These two bottom pics are of him talking about a shark and his big teeth. This kid has an imagination that doesn't quit!
Supplies:
polo shirt
sewing machine
scissors
thread

Instructions:
1. Cut off the collar.
2. Match the side and shoulder seams up and cut a deeper neckline
3. Try the top on inside out, and mark where you want the shirt taken in then lay the shirt flat inside out, and pin the side and sleeve.
4. Sew the markings or where you wanted it to be taken in, then cut it out. Remember, that knit doesn't fray in most cases, and if you cut it pretty close, then it won't be an annoying seam if you don't want to serge or add a zig zag stitch to the edge.
5. Cut the bottom how you want to hem it (I decided later to do a rounded edge)
6. Hem the bottom up from 1/2" to 1".
7. hem the neckline in about 1/2". You may need to stretch the knit here and there to create the perfect neckline.
8. Replace the buttons for a fun color. Because I want to add more then the original amount of 3 buttons, I just the middle button thing closed, then added as many buttons as I wanted.

  15. loving your gold toms right now. I wasn't too interested in those shoes until I saw the gold years ago, they were the first pair I bought. I probably wore them every day for a summer! They are ragged now, but I love them, and still wear them. perhaps it's time to invest in a second pair.

  26. This is GREAT. I'm going to try this on a couple polo's handed down from hubby, but I really hate the way they fit. I'm not sure I understand what you did with the sleeves, but I'm going to improvise. Thanks for sharing.
