The color melt

People have been curious about my recently lightened locks and the quite unique technique used called color melting. A color melt is a subtle lightening of hair color with highlights starting somewhere past the roots to the ends of the hair, creating a natural bleached look. Not to be confused with ombré hair coloring, where it is a more drastic blunt change in hair color. I'm not a hair dresser, but I've heard of two techniques used; one involved a painting highlights on randomly with the coloring brush throughout the hair and the other involving ratting the roots of 15 or so sections of the hair then highlighting individual pieces within that section (ratting allows for a more staggered natural look).

This was my first color job in 10 years and I was terrified. Happily I can say I am in love with how it turned out and I'm still loving it. Not only does it spice up my look, I don't have to worry about "getting my roots done" every few months or going back in for a dye job. It is a style that can be worn and not worried about for a long time to come. And an added bonus, by keeping your roots untouched with this method, you can hold onto that natural hair color if you are at all nervous about coloring your hair (like me).
