Men's top to peplum top tutorial

I guess I can't get over the peplum fever. I mean...another one!? Well, I decided to make it a refashion this time so for those of you who like to refashion, upcycle, restyle or what have you...this is for you, and did I mention it is an easy tutorial to boot? Took me all of 45 minutes to do.

Our poor men's closets are in danger.

Supplies:

Big tee

Pins

Scissors

Thread

Sewing machine

Instructions:

1. Seam rip the bottom (if you need more length) and iron flat.

2. Cut the top into 3 pieces, the first cut should be around the belly button, or where you want the waist to hit. The second cut is only if you want the bottom to be very ruffly (you may have enough if your shirt if very big), is cutting the middle between the bottom of the shirt.

3. Try on the top part and take it in to fit you snug.

4. Cut the neckline by matching up the side and shoulder seams and cutting out the ribbing. Unless you like the neckline the way it is. Hem it.

5. Make the strip into one long one by sewing the two strips together. Then make it into a tube by sewing all the strip's ends together.

6. Gather the tube to fit the widest part of your upper body (like your chest).

7. Pin the shirt and ruffle right sides together, and sew together with a zig zag stitch or vari-overlock stitch. You will have to gather the ruffle here and there a little as you attach it to the top half. This will allow the shirt to stretch jsut over the chest, but still fit tight around your waist. You can add elastic to the edge of the joining pieces.
