The 4 step - draped tulip wrap skirt tutorial

I think I'm really falling in love with wrap skirts. They are easy to make, very cute, and so comfy. I've seen this draped tulip dress around and decided to make one. It took a few test runs to figure out the drape, but I finally figured it out and decided to share. Next time, I'm going to make it out of a polyester, and make it fall to my ankles...I better go get started with that before I start on my neglected house cleaning, my husband will love that I'm sure.

Supplies:

at least 1 yard-1.5 yards of fabric (flowy and light, I chose a light knit so i didn't have to hem)

ribbon at least 2 times the size of you waist

scissors

sewing machine

pins

thread

Instructions:

1. Cut out fabric in the shape of this. Make the length as long as you want the back of the skirt plus 8"or so to make up for the drape once sewn. Make the bottom curve at least the width of your waist times 2, making the top curve even wider. 

**The more of an arch on top the more draped it will be. If anything, do less of an arch on top...this is the most draped I would go.

2. Gather the top curve from point to point.

**Optional: hem the bottom curve, I used knit so I didn't have to because knit doesn't fray easily.

3. Use at least a 2" wide ribbon (or you can make a wide fabric waist band from this tutorial), we are using a ribbon because it doesn't fray. Make the length  your waist + half waist (because of the wrap) + enough for a bow or just a tie. Pin and sew the edge of the ribbon to the BACK gathered part at top, leaving half of what the bow will be out.

4. Fold over to the front side and pin down. Iron if you desire. Sew the edge of the ribbon down over the front gathered edge. This covers the gathered raw edge of the skirt. Now you can wrap and tie and wear!
