DIY gem and ribbon hair clips....plus a great way to fake some bangs.

I've been dressing very, well, dark and manly lately - per my husband's opinion - which I'm cool wiht because I'm still loving black, combat boots, oversized jackets and shirts. So, yes, my figure and femininity can be lost under all that clothing. Recently, I've been trying to incorporate girly things to doll up my outfits just a little. Accessories, shoes, makeup are perfect to switch the attitdue of an outfit from dark or "manly" to pretty. This time, I'm incorporating these side clips! I've almost bought some for 3 or 4 dollars a piece, but with this way, I can make 12 to 15 for the same price. Plus, with this clipped places sweetly to the side, you can fake some bangs!

Supplies:
ribbon (gold, silver, teal) and/or gems
barrettes (I bought a pack of 10)
scissors
double sided tape and/or hot glue gun

Instructions (double sided tape):
1&2. Take the double sided tape and cut a piece that is he length of the clip top plus the two end's under length. Center it and stick it to the clip. Fold the extra tape's edges, under the ends of the clip.
3&4. Center the ribbon to the clip and fold the ends under the sides of the clip over the double sides tape.
5. Press the ribbon firmly into the tape and hold. You may have to do this a few times till it really sticks. Or you can hot glue the  ribbon ends under the clip. Mine so far have stayed in place. The better the tape the better it will stick and stay.

Instructions (hot glue gun - not pictured):
1. Cut the ribbon to the length of the clip plus the two under side lengths.
2. hot glue under one side of the clip, start attaching the ribbon before the hot glue drys, repeat with the with the top of the clip, then to under the other side of the clip. With the gems, just space them out appropriately, then glue them separately to make sure the glue doesn't dry before you place it.

  9. I used to make hair clips when I was little! I had a Klutz craft book called "braids and bows" and it taught me how to braid my own hair and came with supplies and instructions to make scrunchies and hair clips. I haven't made a hair clip in close to seventeen years now... maybe the time to get back into it is now!
