DIY high chair cover tutorial

This haig chair has been in this house here for many many years, and I've got to say it is quite icky and sad looking. So, when I stumbled over a huge variety of oilcloth at Mendel's on Haight street I just knew what I had to do. I probably would have picked one of the cute florals, but with 2 boys...polka dots and blue it was.

I can't believe how easy, fast, and inexpensive it was to make and I'm loving how cheery my kitchen is.

Supplies:

1.5 yards (I bought oil cloth because it is easy to clean, but you can buy any sturdy fabric and through it in the wash to clean it)

Instructions:

1. Lay down the high chair pad and trace around it leaving an extra inch or inch and a half for the seam allowance (and for me the extra space for mess ups). Cut out 2 pieces. Cut out the middle section of the back piece. 

2. Sew up the sides of the middle section of the front piece. (look at the dotted pink line).

3. Hem the back top piece an inch.

4. Line up the front and back pieces pinning right sides together (the front side of the fabric) then sew half inch. Try it on the cover, and take it in if you need. Cut the edges so the corners will be more pointy when you turn it right side out.

5. Turn the cover right side out. 

6. & 7. Mimic what your seat cover does. Add very wide button holes for the straps (reinforce them with extra fabric and satin stitches or what have you), and folds where your high chair needs them.
