diy cord+bolt statement necklace

DSC_0728boltnn My friend Tawnee is all about DIY hardware (new term I learned from her a few days ago), and as we all know...the hardware store is a is one of the best places for inspiration and diy supplies. With jewelry in particular, I love the metal look, feel and heaviness, and I have quickly found out how inexpensive and easy it can be to make (yet it looks expensive). Just a few bolts and such here, some whatnot there and bam...something that feels quality and looks pretty. I love it. This necklace Tawnee designed in particular is such a pretty piece, that is simple and edgy.  And can be worn with a tee or a dress. It has great versatility and options with potential to paint the bolts or do some bright neons for the cording.
Supplies: bolts (openings that will fit over cord doubled) in any variety and amount 50" or more of cording (there are all kinds of colors and sizes-may be fun to do 2 colors) matches or lighter hook scissors Instructions: 1. Cut at least 50" (it will shorten with knotting and you can always cut the extra off) of cording. Then slide a smaller bolt through to the center of the cording. 2. Slide one of the ends through the bolt the opposite direction the other end is going. 3. Leave a little at the and for the hook to go through. 4+5+6. knot the bolt in place. Starred Photos360 7. Pull the bolts through. 8. Pull in the hook and fold over the end enough to knot it. Make sure that is the length you want the necklace too. 9. Knot the hook in place by looping the end over the main cord part twice LOOSELY then... 10. Pull the ends through the loops with the ends coming out toward the bolts. 11. Tighten knot to the length you like. 12. Burn the ends of the cording, preferably close to the knot so you can't see the ends. Starred Photos361iv dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
