heat up your summer with this DIY asymmetrical wrap skirt

asy wrap-007asywra asy wrap-010asy wrap-008 Yes, I know, a skirt that your mother may not approve of, but there are those times in the summer you will hoping over to the swimming pool and you need a quick, yet stylish wrap skirt to slip on over. Grab this instead of those daisy dukes and tank and look stylin' when you aren't swimming and if you decide to go out on the town after. If only I could wear this everyday. Or just heat up your summer with this funky asymmetrical number. Its surprisingly simple to make, and I'm not a fan of zippers at all. This didn't give me any heartache. top: thrifted skirt: self-made tutorial below shoes: 7 for all mankind (similar or similar) jacket: gibson necklace: jewelmint Supplies: yard of fabric or the amount of your hips plus 8 inches by the length you want - I used a stiffer cotton fabric lining the size of you hips width and the length you want sewing machine pins thread scissors Instructions: 1. Cut a long piece of fabric that is at least the width of your hips + 8 inches + 1 inch for seam allowance. Cut it to be the desired length you want. Cut your lining to be your hip measurement plus an inch or so for seam allowance. 2. Sew the ends of the fabric and the lining together (the ends that will be the sides of the wrap not the bottom or top). asywraptut 3. It will naturally pull the main fabric 4 inches in on both sides. Make sure to even it out. 4. Pin and sew the top and bottom together the lining and main fabric. Leave the top, middle backside of the skirt open where you would add darts. asywraptut-001 5. try the skirt on (there will be no darts yet so the waist wont be fitted yet, but the hips will be fitted. Wrap it how you want it to look and mark with pins or chalk. 6. Place the zipper under the flat and pin it's frontside, rightside to the under layer where the wrap will hit. Make srue the little non-teeth flaps are pined on top, sew when you sew it and flip it back to the front, the little piece will be hidden under. Sew it close to the teeth. 7. Sew the left side by pinning it to the front layer wrap part. pining the teeth just out from the edge of the wrap's edge. Top-stitch it in place. DSC_0845 asywraptut 8. Add a buttonhole and button to where the edge of the inside wrap will hit. asywraptut-003 Now time to make that waist line! 9. put the skirt on (I put it on very high, then slide it down once I've zipped it). Then mark where you want it darted, preferably 2 places in the back, out from the center 3 to 5 inches. This is why you left an opening in the back at the top of the skirt. asywraptut-002 10. repeat making a dart in the lining , it doesn't have to be perfect, but don't make it too small. Then sew up the opening. asywraptut-001
