4 DIY denim shorts for your summer (all refashioned from pants)

DSC_0372shortstrip A summer wouldn't be whole without a great pair of shorts. And when I say shorts, I mean a whole world of styles. Long ones, shorts ones, daisy dukes, mid thigh, dyed, studded, lace trimmed, scalloped, loose, vintage, printed, frayed, cuffed, rolled, bleached, acid washed, and much much more. For this particular post I want to show you how easily and quickly it is to transform an old or thrifted pair of jeans into a cute pair of shorts perfect for your summer. I choose to make some frayed and rolled short shorts, vintage high-waisted shorts, mid-thigh rolled shorts, and knee length shorts. With one basic tutorial! Now I can say I'm officially ready for my tropical vacation in a few weeks! These are just merely the how to on making pants into shorts....there are MANY more possibilities with past this like adding trims, studs or dying and bleaching...the possibilities are endless! shortjif Not only do you have some new shorts to look awesome in, but you can change those shorts into a few different looks by unrolling them or rolling them however many times you like! You can also roll them to show the fray, you can roll them to be chunky or perfectly flat.
Supplies: jeans scissors sewing machine or needle and thread seam ripper instructions: 1. Try them on and mark where you want it to be cut. 2. Cut! 3. Sew a straight stitch to the point of where you want it to stop fraying (mine was a quarter inch to a half inch) or hem it. I chose the fray route with all 4. But you can easily hem it later if you want to change the look of it. 4. Fray the hem by pulling out the horizontal threads (I used a seam ripper), trim those threads if you like. The more you wash and wear the more it will naturally fray. Starred Photos363 5. If you need to take it in or you have room to hike them up and make them high waisted, then you need to try them on -measure how much it needs to be taken in - cut the waist's side seams open (because it can get a little thick, so I cut out the extra seam allowances within the waistband) - sew the waistband together along markings, making sure to taper as you sew down - serge or zigzag stitch edges to prevent fraying. extrashort 6. If you want to add holes…follow this tutorial. extrashort-001
