I've been spotting and craving these ruffle bottom skirts, aka trumpet or what have you, and have been obsessed. Enough to find hunt down some shiny, leopard printed jacquard and have a go at it. I found it pretty straight forward to make, with little fabric. Found it to be very pretty and a perfect addition to my fall wardrobe! By the way....if you are interested, I will post your tutorials or pictures of what you have made if you hash tag #diyfallwardrobe and @cottonandcurls on instagram! Can't wait to see what you have all come up with! Follow my wardrobe making journey under that hashtag (as well as others) and here of course.

Supplies:
1.5 - 2 yards of medium or light weight woven or knit fabric.
invisible zipper (at least length from waist to biggest part of hips)
scissors
thread
sewing machine
pins
measuring tape
Instructions:
1. Cut out 3 pieces from the diagram below...the bigger you make it the better chance it will fit perfectly.
2. Sew the pieces right sides together, putting it all into one strip. (like the top right picture)
3. Mark where the zipper will be (it must go past the widest part of your hips). Sew up from bottom of the skirt to the end of where the zipper will be. Make sure to sew on the line where you zipper will be sewn so it all lines up perfectly. OR sew the zipper in first, then sew up the bottom. Preference! I find the second way better, to do the zipper then sew up the bottom.
4. To sew in the zippers, first unzip the zipper, the take the front right zipper and put it on the front side, edge of the right piece. Then sew the zipper at least 5/8" in. Repeat with the other side.
5. Cut out a circle, using diagram below. I just use a flexible measuring ruler to to find out what the circumference is. Or you can use the equation ---- circumference = pi/d ----- to get the diameter and radius (divide diameter by 2).
6. Sew the circle to the bottom of the skirt, right sides together. Iron.
7. Hem the bottom circle under by folding and sewing it under by a quarter inch.
8. Fold the top under by an inch or so after serging or ad a waistband. I just folded it under a quarter inch, ironed then folded under an inch then sewed.
