About Moi!

For my about me page, I'm borrowing a spotlight someone asked me to fill out....hope thats ok! It pretty much sums up everything.
Tell me about yourself:
I'm originally from Seattle area and moved to Idaho with my mom, where I gained 2 step sisters and 5 step brothers on top of my 3 brothers. A very male dominated family and a very awesome one. I went to Brigham Young University in Provo Utah, and graduated in clinical psychology. I married my (hot hot hot) husband Danny 3 years ago and 2 years after that we had darling Beck, who is now 18 months old - LOVE both to pieces. I currently live in Provo Utah, where my husband goes to school for Business and I can't wait till his is done. A little about me...I love love love to sew, hate to cook, but love to eat spaghetti, love to take pictures and wish I was good at it, love fashion/clothes shopping and all that awesome typical girly stuff, I play the flute (total band geek, but proud of it), did play bass guitar back in the day where I was in a girl band and rocked it at my senior year talent show (we weren't so good, no so good at all), love all sports, and love to DANCE!

What made you start re-fashioning & when did you start?
I come from a family of builders and creators, like my mom, who would refashion and all the time growing up, like her black and white prom dress from high school. Creating or refashioning is just in my blood. I caught the refashioning bug early, you would find me walking around the house trying to repair things with my tools and belt I received for Christmas a previous year. My dad would always ask me, "Don't you want to help cook or clean with your mom  in the kitchen?" and I would turn to him with my tool belt on and say...nope, that stuff is not for me. My first time I refashioned was in high school, I took in an oversized Led Zeppelin T-shirt and from then on refashioning was a new passion. I even made my senior year prom dress...which shockingly turned out.
dresses my mom has refashioned and or sewn from scratch...awesome.

What do you love most about re-creating fashion items?
When I refashion, I love how it turns something useless or ugly into something in style or into something I just plain LOVE...and it was free or very cheap in the process!

What inspires you when it comes to re-creating fashions?
Easy...clothes magazines, fashion magazines, runways, designers, pictures from the eras, people around me, colors, patterns, art, pictures of my mom, and grandma growing up. I just "suck in" anything that inspires me, write it down in a little notebook I carry around or take a picture of it on my phone!

What are your favorite words to live by/quotes?
My mother-in-law helped me out with this one..."it doesn't matter" or "Does it matter?". I try to look at life in a bigger perspective. Yes, I will still get annoyed when my husband or Beck does this or that, but I try to remember those 3 simple words and I can be more patient, understanding, less frustrated, and a whole lot less argumentative. I really, really need to work on this still.

What advice do you have for others who are interested in re-creating fashion?
My advice...JUST DO IT.  I stole that from Nike, I know, but it is true. A lot of people that comment or talk to me about my blog say that sewing or refashioning looks daunting, or they naturally don't have the talent. Refashioning and creating can be SO dang easy and fun if you just let go of the worries and get started. What do you have to loose? Once you finish one piece and you will refashion everything else in your closet. Happens to everyone! Thats what happened to me!
