An easy way to take in your pant's waistband

Funny story...when Danny saw me editing these pictures, he laughed and called me a sailor, then quickly said...wow you shouldn't have that booty picture. hahaha, I didn't take the picture out because these pants are rocking the booty...so these aren't my sailor pants, they are my booty pants.

As you can tell from all the stripes an diagonal anchor buttons on lots of my skirts and pants - I LOVE nautical stuff! So, when I pulled these pants out of the "to refashion" heap in my sewing room closet, I got very excited. The only problem...it is a size too big and a little baggy in the, ahem, well you know. I didn't want to seam rip anything, I just wanted to fix this in 10 minutes. How I did it...instructions below. My favorite part of these pants besides the buttons is the cute tie in the back! Love making old, new!

Supplies:

pants that need taking in

sewing machine or needle and thread

thread

scissors

flexible measuring tape

fabric pen or marking chalk

iron

pins

 

Instructions:

1. Put pants on inside out and mark how much you want to take in evenly on both sides

2. Sew along the markings and make sure to taper really really well so there will be no bulges

 

 3. Cut and iron down so the center is exposed (if you want you can serge edges before ironing)

  

4. Then top stitch (if you want) to prevent fraying on inside and to keep the newly sewn waistband flat...DONE!
