One way to make a skirt bigger

Since I bought this cute 70s A-line skirt from DI I haven't been able to wear it, sadly. I was obsessed with the braided belt and the buttons down the middle. BUT, and this is a big but, it was a few inches toooooo small. I couldn't even button it or even get it close. Maybe that is why the original tag was still attached.

Supplies:
skirt that is too small with buttons
sewing machine
thread
scissors
flexible measuring tape
pins
marking pen or chalk

Instructions:
1. take off the buttons
2. seam rip the fabric that is folded under where the buttons were then iron open
3. sew the new open surged end under a quarter to a third of an inch
4. topstitch the very bottom and the top
 5. If you aren't taking anything out from the bottom (like me) then you can steal a little from between the button holes where it won't be seen. Unless you are shortening it then you can steal it form the extra material.
6. make a square (making sure two edges are neat, the other two don't have to be because the are going to be sewn in) then sew it into the missing square area.
7. sew the buttons back on where the feel comfortable to your fit.

  4. I have a skirt I want to do this with but I am so afraid!! I just got my sewing machine and I don't want to screw it up. I also don't have any buttons on mine so I don't know if it would work. It's a zipper with a button on the top.
