Men's v-neck to kid's v-neck shirt tutorial

With this baby coming very very soon, I've got to get as many tutorials in as possible!  I scored this rag of a tee from Alison from her garage sale I randomly wound up at...and I saw the perfect opportunity to make a perfect v-neck for Beck. And it is SO dang easy. I love little v-necks on boys, its like they are all grown up or something.
Fourth of july was sooooo awesome! We took Beck to the avengers movie (which he had a hard time watching...this kid never stops moving) and later that night we listened to the Beach Boys blast the classics live and the huge fireworks show that followed....and luckily we watched and heard it all right in our front yard (the benefits of living right next to the stadium).

Supplies:
v-neck top
scissors
sewing machine
thread
pins

Instructions:
1. Cut the front away from the back (I don't usually do this with round neck tops) to have a front and back piece.
2. On the front piece, trace with a different tee making sure to trace the armholes (make it the size you like), placing it lower on the v-neck. Cut it out.
3. Repeat with the back of the shirt, but place the tee to trace at the very top so the ribbing is still attached to the neckline of the top-to-be. Cut it out.
4. Trace the sleeves of the tee size you like to the end top of the sleeves of the shirt. Then you won't have to hem!
5. Place right sides together and straight stitch the sides up and shoulders, leaving the armholes open.
6. Sew each sleeve's underarm area right sides together, so it will look like a tube.
7. Sew sleeves on shirt by flipping sleeve right side out and shirt inside out. Push sleeve into shirt's arm hole and pin them together right sides together inside the shirt..
8. Hem the bottom of the shirt flipping up 3/4 of an inch to an inch, and sewing a straight stitch around the bottom.

  1. I love Beck's expressions...such a cutie.

Once I get my hands on my sewing machine again, this is going on my to-do list. What a thrifty idea.
