Lower a neckline tutorial and an Autumn hike

Lowering a neckline may be the the quickest and easiest fix to transforming a top into something more updated and flattering. I grabbed this cheap baseball tee (bought at most sporting good stores) and dropped the neckline. Love it!

 Supplies:
baseball tee (or any tee)
ribbing (if you don't have enough from the original top)
scissors
sewing machine
thread
pins

Instructions:
1. Cut out the ribbing. Trim the ribbing down a as wide as you like.
2. Line up the side seams or shoulder seams of the shirt and cut a little bit of the top of the shirt to make a wider neckline.
3. Stretch the ribbing out to see if it can fit around the neckline. If not, then a little more will need to be added (you can easily buy some at Jon anns). I added a little, but 90% of the time, I don't have to. sew the ends of the ribbing together to make a long circle. Then pin right sides together, to the top. I only pinned the seam to the middle back of the top because I stretch the ribbing a lot as I sewed it around the newly cut neckline.

  1. This is one of those projects where I say "duh", why didn't I think of that?? For a zillion years I have been wearing t-shirts that are too tight around the neck! Thanks. I LOVE baseball shirts and WILL be doing this!

  8. Is there anything hotter than a man wearing a baby? No, not as far as I can tell. Also, that is very brilliant/ohduh, I totally have a tshirt a friend gave my hubby that was passed to me that I liked aside from the high neckline, and was going to refashion into something for one of my girls. No longer!

  11. Hey I have a refashioning question for you. I just scored a fabulous neon tennis skirt that I want to change into some boyshort swim bottoms. Do you have any ideas? I have seen lots of tutorials for shorts>skirt refashions but nothing for skirt>shorts.

    1. I have an old tutorial call pleated high waisted shorts (http://cottonandcurls.blogspot.com/2012/06/floral-pleated-shorts.html) . I turn it from a skirt into shorts. Maybe that will help? Let me know if it doesn't :)

    2. Thanks! This might do the trick. I'm going for something a little more fitted, but I think I can work with this. I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, I'm a long-time reader and fan of yours. Greetings from Calgary!

  13. Wow, I really like your tutorial here! I don't like shirts too close to my neck. And on a side note, that baby wrap/carrier looks really sturdy and handy.... did you sew that or is it just fabric?
