People have been curious about my recently lightened locks and the quite unique technique used called color melting. A color melt is a subtle lightening of hair color with highlights starting somewhere past the roots to the ends of the hair, creating a natural bleached look. Not to be confused with ombré hair coloring, where it is a more drastic blunt change in hair color. I'm not a hair dresser, but I've heard of two techniques used; one involved a painting highlights on randomly with the coloring brush throughout the hair and the other involving ratting the roots of 15 or so sections of the hair then highlighting individual pieces within that section (ratting allows for a more staggered natural look).
This was my first color job in 10 years and I was terrified. Happily I can say I am in love with how it turned out and I'm still loving it. Not only does it spice up my look, I don't have to worry about "getting my roots done" every few months or going back in for a dye job. It is a style that can be worn and not worried about for a long time to come. And an added bonus, by keeping your roots untouched with this method, you can hold onto that natural hair color if you are at all nervous about coloring your hair (like me).
You look amazing :)! I was talking Diana the other day, and I think we all need to hang out soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes! Just let me know when!
DeleteSo pretty! And love your outfit too! Have a great day! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteWas it done with only one color? It looks fabulous! I have very similar hair (length and color) to yours and I haven't died my hair yet. This is something I'd really consider. You look absolutely beautiful! Did you choose the shade yourself?
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous! Love the look!

I love ombred hair!! (being asian, I think it is a natural looking way to do something with my dark hair) After getting it done at a school (they totally ruined it!) I just did it myself! I was so worried about it looking unprofessional or trashy, but I Love it, never going back!
ReplyDeleteOh to have long hair! This really is a great method and trend. It looks great on you!

Your hair is beautiful. I was going to the salon in a few weeks to get an ombré effect on my red hair but now I think I will do a color melting. I think it could be fun for a while. Thanks!

I've always wanted to tell you how much I love your hair!! You seriously look AMAZING for just having a baby.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it called 'balayage'? Giselle and Jennifer Aniston were famous for starting the balayage look, which sounds very similar to "color melt". Balayage is a french word, so maybe this is the american term.
ReplyDeleteOnly in Utah is it called "melting" the rest of the world calls it Ombre' definition: graduated tones or shades going from light to dark. just fyi. Make sure when talking to your stylist you are on the same page of what you want exactly, because terms are always different depending on location. sincerely,
