DIY gathered bell sleeve refashion
This dress is actually a refashion from one of my DIYs! I literally couldn't find the right fabric or the right dress at the thrift store so I just grabbed my old boxy dress DIY and went for it! I took it in to be more A-line and added the sleeves. I realized after I attached the sleeves and took in the dress a little, it turned out to be kind of summery. Ehhhh, what can you do. Still love it and can't wait to wear it!
Instructions:
-mark where you want your gathered bell sleeve to start
and measure the length you want the bell to be
--cut just below you mark
measure the opening of the sleeve then double the measurement.
-Cut out 2 rectangles that are the doubled sleeve opening measurement by the length you want the bell sleeve to be.
-Then hem one of long sides of the rectangle
and sew a basting stitch to other long side.
-then gently pull the basting stitch to be the size opening as the sleeve opening.
-sew the side of the bell together to make a tube.
-pull the sleeve through the gathered part of the inside out bell
-pin and sew the 2 openings together
-topstitch the outside of the sleeve just above the seam you just sewed, making sure to sew the inside raw edge or the seam allowance upward into the topstitch creating a flatter gathering.
